In January, several members of the KEPHART team attended the International Builders’ Show. IBS presents a unique opportunity to learn, educate, and be inspired by the best of the best in the design and building industry.
Three KEPHART thought leaders were chosen to showcase their area of expertise in education sessions during the conference. Below, find a brief overview of the presentations KEPHART delivered on how to win difficult entitlements, right-sizing, and what 2020 holds for single family architecture.
Winning Challenging Entitlements
KEPHART Principal Chris Grady, alongside Jared Carlon of Norris Design and Phil Stuepfert of HR Green, presented their suggestions for winning challenging entitlements. The session addressed effective ways to keep communication lines open, both with the community and the municipality, as well as the advantages of having a distinct vision and brand for your project. You can win over the community by presenting your project in a way that shows you understand the aesthetic and the needs of the existing neighborhood.
My House is a Puzzle
My House is a Puzzle, presented by KEPHART Principal Doug Van Lerberghe, Michael Woodley of Woodley Architectural Group, and Wayne Visbeen of Visbeen Architects, focused on right-sizing homes. The session explored the elimination of redundant spaces, the creation of flex rooms, and how to integrate better circulation, all while maintaining affordability. By looking at each room within your space as a piece to the puzzle, you can resize and right-size them to achieve the best use of space.
What’s Next in Single Family Architecture
To talk about what 2020 holds for residential home building, KEPHART Project Manager, Sarah Kaplan, presented alongside Cassie Cherry and John Danielian of Danielian Associates and Mark Jones of LRK. The session offered pivotal information about design trends and ways architects and builders can differentiate their product appealing amidst difficult market conditions.
All the Single Ladies
At almost 20% of the market, single women are the largest home buying demographic behind married couples. KEPHART’s Sarah Kaplan teamed with Jenni Lantz of John Burns Real Estate consulting to share insights into the features and amenities single women are seeking in new homes and communities and how to capture the attention of this savvy buyer.
Beyond the information that our team presented, we left IBS feeling inspired, motivated and full of fresh ideas about the latest trends, the senior living and multifamily markets, marketing, and so much more! We also left the conference with two new trophies for our design of The Henry apartments for Carmel Partners in Denver.
