KEPHART was founded on the idea that everyone deserves a well-designed place to live, work and play. We also believe that the residents within those spaces deserve access to wholesome, sustainable food sources.
Each year, Canstruction brings together Denver’s architecture and design community to help fulfill the mission of We Don’t Waste, a Denver-based nonprofit that aims to reduce hunger and food waste. Architectural, Engineering and Construction firms pair passion and expertise to create life-sized structures out of canned goods that will ultimately be donated to hunger-relief organizations.
This year, KEPHART’s design was inspired by Denver’s CANvention Center and the iconic Big Blue Bear, who can be seen overlooking the city as snow begins to pile up around his feet. To bring this vision to life, KEPHART required 2,400 cans of tuna, 550 boxes of pasta, 336 cans of cream of mushroom, and 15 large bags of rice.
This structure, just one of eleven created this year, will provide meals to families in need and help We Don’t Waste further their efforts in collecting and distributing unused foods.
