At KEPHART, our people are at the core of everything we do. This month, we’re highlighting Shawn Curtis, a Project Manager in our Arizona office, whose passion for mentorship and deep experience in the multifamily industry continues to make a meaningful impact on our team.
How you got started in architecture?
I attended the University of Arizona and have spent the past 12 years in the multifamily industry. My interest in architecture started early, sparked by a high school physics project where we built a bridge out of toothpicks. After placing second, I became fascinated with design and construction.
I was initially considering between engineering and art, but architecture turned out to be the perfect balance of the two. By the time I was 16, I knew it was the path for me.
What is your role at KEPHART?
I joined KEPHART in July 2025 as a Project Manager. I guide projects from early concept through design completion and permitting approval, helping turn ideas into fully realized, buildable plans while ensuring each phase moves forward efficiently and aligns with project goals.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
While I enjoy bringing projects to life, what I find most rewarding is mentoring the next generation of architects. I’ve been able to support emerging professionals as they work through their experience requirements, exams, and licensure. Seeing them grow and succeed in their careers is the most exciting part of what I do.
What drew you to KEPHART?
I’ve worked at both large firms and small studios, and KEPHART offers the best of both worlds. It’s the perfect middle size.
The firm has a strong, connected culture without feeling overwhelming. There’s also a real openness here, people are willing to share knowledge and support each other, which is something I really value and hope to contribute to.
Fun Fact?
Before my career in architecture, I worked underground as a copper miner, spending time about 3,000 feet below the surface in Arizona. A fact that most people don’t know about me.
Shawn’s dedication to mentorship, combined with his industry expertise and collaborative approach, make him a valued member of the KEPHART team. Through his leadership and passion for developing others, he plays an important role in shaping both the success of our projects and the future of our team.
