Senior Associate / Director of Studio
With more than 15 years at KEPHART, Jon Webb has played a key role in shaping both our projects and our people. From starting as a contract CAD technician to leading one of our studios, Jon's career has been defined by continuous learning, strong relationships, and a passion for helping others succeed. We sat down with Jon to learn more about his journey, leadership philosophy, and what continues to inspire him today.
How did you get your start at KEPHART?
It started at an uncertain point in my career. I was unemployed at the time when someone I knew mentioned that KEPHART needed a contract worker with CAD experience. I came in to help with a few projects and eventually transitioned into a full-time role.
Most of my early work was focused on townhomes. At first, it was just me, and one other employee, but as the workload grew, so did the team. Over time, we built a dedicated townhome group, and I found myself leading a team of about six people. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how much that early opportunity shaped my career.
How did your role evolve?
A lot of my growth came from being willing to take on new opportunities when they presented themselves. After several years focused on townhomes, I was looking for a broader understanding of architecture and the business as a whole. I wanted exposure to different leadership styles, project types, and ways of solving problems, which led me to work with Bryce Hall on higher-density projects.
That transition expanded my perspective beyond design alone and gave me insight into project delivery, client relationships, financial considerations, and the bigger-picture decisions that shape successful communities. The experience challenged me to think differently and ultimately helped me become a more well-rounded architect.
Around 2021, as other leaders within the firm took on broader responsibilities, I stepped into the Director of Studio role.
How have you evolved as a leader at the firm?
My leadership style has always been rooted in support, transparency, and trust.
I’ve learned that when you provide people with guidance, resources, and honest communication, the impact extends beyond just that individual. It creates a ripple effect that helps entire teams succeed.
I’ve also become more confident in trusting my experience and trusting my team. Knowing the work, owning decisions, and supporting people when they need it has become a big part of how I lead today.
Favorite part of the job?
Without question, its seeing people succeed.
Whether it’s helping someone work through a difficult project challenge, solve a problem, or achieve a career milestone, I love watching people reach a point where they realize what they’re capable of accomplishing.
Seeing team members grow and find success in their work is incredibly rewarding.
Fun fact?
I’m an avid road cyclist and have been riding since 2008. Over the years, I’ve logged enough miles to ride around the Earth’s equator more than once.
I’ve also completed somewhere between 12 and 14 week-long cycling trips. It’s one of my favorite ways to challenge myself, clear my head, and explore new places.
