KEPHART is excited to announce the opening of Vance Street Flats in Arvada, Colorado, for our partners at Medici Consulting Group. Nestled near Old Towne Arvada, this NGBS Bronze-certified community adds affordable housing to Arvada’s core and serves as the new headquarters of the Arvada Veggie Van, a volunteer-run non-profit that provides locally sourced fresh produce to the community via a mobile cart.
The contemporary architecture of the community, accented with three classic shades of brick, thoughtfully links to the character of neighboring Old Towne Arvada. The surrounding community is welcomed into Vance Street Flats through strong pedestrian connections and an open invitation to plant, grow, and harvest fruits and vegetables in the large community garden with residents.
To further encourage a healthy lifestyle, the floors are connected by a large interior staircase, that has the same decorative treatment as the shared areas, making it an activated and attractive feature. The building also has 12-foot ceilings on the first floor and 9-foot ceilings on the second and third floors, to allow for larger windows giving residents access to ample natural light.
The 2,500 sq. ft. commercial space on the first floor, which serves as the new headquarters for the Arvada Veggie Van, was thoughtfully designed to ensure the non-profit had enough room to work and hold events. It was also equipped with a kitchen where volunteers can host classes to teach people how to cook healthy meals using the vegetables they provide.
KEPHART is excited that this community will be adding over 50 much-needed affordable homes ranging from studios to two-bedroom options to suit various needs. We are also proud to have designed a community that provides opportunities for residents and the surrounding community to interact in powerful ways. We hope this new space allows the Arvada Veggie Van to flourish as a valuable resource, providing fresh local produce to the surrounding community.
