Bryce Hall recently presented at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference to discuss what features, services, and amenities today’s apartment renters really want. Bryce was joined on the panel by an apartment marketing expert and a leasing expert as they examined renter preference data collected by the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC) and Kingsley Associates. The 2017 survey compiled by these two groups, with over a quarter of a million responses from renters nationwide, is the largest-ever survey of apartment renters.
Some of the results uncovered by the survey were not surprising – we all know that people want air-conditioning and garbage disposals – however, a few items stood out in the data. For example, the amount of money renters are willing to pay for smart amenities like thermostats, lighting, locks, and video doorbells and that reliable cellular service didn’t rank higher on the list.
